[4] “Where were you when I set the earth on its foundations? If you know the truth, tell me. [5] Who determined its dimensions? Do you know? Who stretched out the measuring line?” [6] On what do the pillars that support the earth rest? Who laid their last stone [7] when the morning stars all sang together, when the inhabitants of heaven shouted for joy? [8] “When the sea burst forth from the earth’s womb, who shut the gates to hold it back? [9] It was I! I covered it with clouds, I wrapped it in a garment of mist. [10] I stopped its course, I set a limit, locking the gates with bolts. [11] I said to the sea, “You will come this far! You will go no farther! Yes, your proud waves will stop here!” [12] “Only once in your life have you commanded the day to rise? Did you say to the dawn, [13] “Take hold of the earth by its edges and shake it like a rug, so that the wicked may fall.” [14] At dawn the earth is rosy like pottery, embroidered like a garment for a feast. [15] The wicked are deprived of darkness; they cannot raise their arms to strike.
