[1] The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will. [2] All a man's ways are right in his eyes; But the Lord weighs the hearts. [3] To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. [4] Haughty eyes and a proud heart are the lamp of the wicked; they are sin. [5] The plans of the diligent lead to abundance, but those who act rashly come to poverty. [6] Treasures gained by a lying tongue are fleeting vanity and a stalk of death. [7] The violence of the wicked overwhelms them, because they refuse to do what is right. [8] The guilty follow crooked ways, but the innocent act with integrity. [9] It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than to share a dwelling with a quarrelsome wife.
